Black Boy Joy

The #SpeakUpLeeds campaign aims to:

Encourage black boys aged 10-18 to talk about their personal experiences as a black boy and how this affects their mental health.

Encourage them to talk about how they feel, and encourage others to do the same.

Normalise the conversation around mental health among black boys.

The campaign was inspired by the Black Boy Joy movement which was created to show positive images of happy Black boys, to reinforce confidence and support the right for Black boys to be happy.

All black boys deserve to be seen, heard, celebrated and valued. It’s ok not be ok, but it’s better for you to speak up than to suffer in silence.
