Andi Brierley
Head of Access, Participation and Outcomes, Leeds Trinity University

Andi is the Head of Access, Participation and Outcomes at Leeds Trinity University and published author of three Crime and Justice books. Andi has an extensive 15-year career in Youth Justice, including 5 years as the Child Looked After Specialist, focussing on safely reducing the number of children in care being criminalised in Leeds before spending 2 years teaching Prison Officers on a Custodial Leadership MSc as a University Lecturer. Andi had an unorthodox route into his professional career, including being removed from family and placed in care, being excluded from school, addicted to heroin, incarcerated as a child, and subsequently serving 4 prison sentences between the ages of 17 - 23. Andi's practice, teaching and his motivation to support children caught up in his previous circumstances has been shaped by his own experience of overcoming adversity to advocating for and supporting the socially excluded in society with a belief that no matter how dark it gets; 'relationships' and 'love' can always provide light!
